About Little Waves Early Learning Centre
Welcome to Little Waves Early Learning Centre
Kia Ora, Talofa, Hello, Bula, Mālō e lelei, and a very warm welcome to Little Waves Early Learning Centre.
Little Waves is a small, family-orientated centre providing a nurturing and welcoming “home away from home” for tamariki aged 0–5 years. Our centre is built on strong relationships and a deep sense of belonging, with Manaakitanga (hospitality and respect), Aroha (love), Atawhai (kindness), and Whanaungatanga (relationships and connection) at the heart of everything we do. These values guide the way we care for, teach, and support every tamaiti and their whānau.
Our teaching team is made up of qualified and registered kaiako who work collaboratively to provide high-quality care and education. We celebrate the unique strengths, cultures, identities, and experiences that each tamaiti, whānau, and kaiako brings to our community. We believe that strong partnerships with parents and whānau are essential to supporting positive learning outcomes and ensuring every tamaiti feels valued, respected, and connected.
Our quiet and nurturing nursery caters for up to 10 under-twos. Our nursery kaiako create a calm, safe, and responsive environment where ngā pēpi can develop secure relationships, self-select resources, explore at their own pace, and participate in meaningful daily mahi thoughtfully prepared by kaiako.
Our preschool space provides a wide range of play and learning opportunities both indoors and outdoors. We believe tamariki learn best through meaningful play, exploration, and relationships. Much of our day is therefore centred around tamaiti-led learning, where tamariki are encouraged to follow their interests, create their own activities, make choices, and take an active role in their learning journeys.
Kaiako carefully observe tamariki and use these observations to plan meaningful learning experiences that connect with the strands and learning outcomes of Te Whāriki. We thoughtfully extend tamariki’s ideas, thinking, language, creativity, confidence, and developing skills. Throughout the day, kaiako also provide rich and engaging mahi time experiences that tamariki can freely choose to participate in, supporting a wide range of interests and learning dispositions.
A strong focus at Little Waves is our connection with the local community. We value the opportunities that our location in Paraparaumu Beach provides and actively incorporate our local community into our curriculum. Local excursions, visits, and experiences allow tamariki to develop an understanding of their community and the people and places within it. We also warmly welcome whānau, community members, and special guests into our centre to share their knowledge, cultures, experiences, and skills with our tamariki.
Our environment provides opportunities for tamariki to physically challenge themselves, develop confidence and independence, and explore their capabilities, while our indoor spaces offer a warm, homely atmosphere where tamariki can feel safe, comfortable, and connected.
At Little Waves, we are more than a childcare centre — we are a community. Our tamariki, whānau, and kaiako are at the heart of everything we do. Together, we create a place where every tamaiti is known, valued, supported, and encouraged to grow.
We look forward to welcoming you and your whānau into our Little Waves community, where learning is nurtured through aroha, relationships, play, exploration, and a strong sense of belonging.
